What used to be dull and abandoned store fronts have given way to new hip construction and innovative renovations by some of Philly’s hottest new businesses such as Stock, Girard (The No Tipping French Brasserie) and the soon-to-be open Joe’s Steaks.   This pocket of Philadelphia has been through a serious facelift.  We wonder if we will even recognize in in 10 years’ time.

It’s More Accessible Than Ever

The trolley that runs along E. Girard has helped connect this corridor with the rest of the city

With a renovated trolley system, proximity to the eL, and revamped highway system for easier access to 95 and Aramingo Avenue, E. Girard used to be an area where few ventured  into  and many U-turns were made.  Now it’s a thriving business corridor with some of the top dining and entertainment destinations in Philly.

The Social Scene

Johnny Brend’s a Fishtown staple, providing a great bar scene and live acts

With the emergence of E. Girard Ave. Philadelphia residents are no long relegated to traveling to Center City or Northern Liberties for entertainment and nightlife.  With well-established watering holes such as Kraftwork and East Girard Gastropub and live entertainment at Johnny Brenda’s, the E. Girard corridor is a haven for those looking to mix and mingle with the hip Philly crowd.

The Food Scene

Although many restaurants were name dropped in our previous reasons, the food selection in and around E. Girard is some of the best in the city. Even mega mogul/restaurateur Stephen Starr has pumped money in this bustling section of Fishtown.   Whether it’s BBQ from Fette Sau, hardy meals from interstate Drafthouse, pho from Stock or juicy burgers from Sketch Burger,  the food scene here is thriving.  You can literally find any type of cuisine within walking distance.

If Fishtown was Manhattan , the intersection of E. Girard and Frankford Avenue would be Times Square.  This is where Fishtown lives and breathes. This area of Fishtown is where the local art culture blossoms.  Murals by legendary street artist Shepard Fairey can be seen here, legendary musicians have graced stages here, and culinary chefs earn their stripes in the kitchens here.
